Brief |
The Alexander Plaza is located in the core are of
Berlin transportation, and also is the only one Plaza
adjacent to the Middle Ages Berlin City Wall. As the
time passed by, nowadays the plaza already
transformed into a leisure place with various modern
architectures. However, through the pedestrians still
can image the splendid view of Alexander Plaza
through the modern architecture “ the Gate of City”
designed by Mies von der Rohe, Le Corbusier and
Walter Gropius.
The Alexander Plaza Culture Complex is requested to
be designed as a 30-Floor Buildings, and to satisfy
the multiple requirements such as reading, teaching
and entertaining, living. Designer supposed the
podim-building as a communication space for
teaching, entertaining and relaxing, the main building
as a depot or reading and collecting books. In the
educational area, designer followed the design
concept of classic typical corridor of educational
building and consciously expands it and increases
high-level atrium to allow skylight come and wide
staircase to allow seating and to encourage
interaction. The tower ,functioned as the library, is
organized as the double helical structure. Three floor
are defined as one unit, every floor plan is divided
into three circular space. The coral area as the core
of transport, the intermediate one designed as the
book story due to its low lighting conditions, and the
peripheral loop-space designed as reading area
with upward staircase due to its high daylight
condition, so that the readers can climb the tower
through eastern staircase and return from west.
The space structure of the main building is
determined into a vertical-connected loop by these double helical staircases.
It is also a great bravura in the space organization.
